The BC Regional Mining Alliance (BC RMA) is a northwest regional partnership between Aboriginal groups, industry and provincial government representatives. British Columbia, Canada is a world-class mining jurisdiction, rich in mining history and home to sixteen operating mines and a thriving mineral exploration sector. The BC RMA is a collaborative effort that welcomes the opportunity to share our success stories from grassroots exploration, through permitting and into operations, from the perspective of all partners across our sector.
The Golden Triangle area in northwest BC has been a focus of mineral exploration and mining activity for over 150 years. Early discoveries included significant gold, silver, copper, zinc, lead and molybdenum deposits throughout the region, which covers nearly one-quarter of the province of BC. Today, a rise in commodity prices and improvements in infrastructure have made the Golden Triangle one of the hottest mineral exploration districts in the world.
British Columbia is a leading mining jurisdiction with a bright mining future. Mining Journal’s 2017 World Risk Report ranked BC as the least risky jurisdiction in the world for resource investment, largely on the back of its world-leading mining code. World-class mineral deposits combined with distinct competitive advantages make the province a top destination for mining investment. Industry, Aboriginal groups and all levels of government are working together to encourage responsible resource development and ensure positive outcomes for sustainable, lasting economic development that supports local communities. Socially and environmentally responsible resource development rooted in local partnerships is the new way of doing business – and BC is leading the way.
