September 25, 2024, VANCOUVER, BC – Keerit Jutla, President and CEO of the Association for Mineral Exploration (AME), made the following statement in response to the mining platform released by BC NDP during the 2024 BC Election campaign:

Mineral exploration is the bedrock of our mining industry. Discovery is the spark that ignites the flame of development and leads to new mining projects. Without a strong emphasis on greenfield mineral exploration, we risk stifling the very foundation upon which our future in critical minerals is built.

Today, we stand at a pivotal moment for British Columbia’s mineral exploration and mining industry. The Association of Mineral Exploration (AME) is encouraged by the recognition from both the BC Conservative Party and the BC NDP of the urgent need to streamline the permitting process for mining projects. This recognition is a crucial step towards harnessing the immense potential of our province’s abundant mineral resources.

We are optimistic that the acknowledgment from both political parties signals a new era of support for our industry. However, it is imperative that this support extends beyond commitments in an election campaign. The BC NDP’s mining platform, while commendable, falls short by not explicitly supporting the indispensable role of mineral exploration. We urge all political parties to integrate a comprehensive approach to mining that includes robust exploration initiatives to support a thriving mining sector in BC.

The future of critical minerals in British Columbia hinges on our commitment to exploration. AME is dedicated to advocating for policies that support the entire mining lifecycle, from initial exploration phases to full-scale production. We are ready to collaborate to create a thriving mining industry that benefits all British Columbians.

Together we can unlock the full potential of our province’s rich mineral resources and pave the way for a prosperous and sustainable future.
