Vancouver, B.C. – May 26, 2025 – The Association for Mineral Exploration (AME) has responded to today’s announcement from Premier Eby about planning for critical mineral mining and exploration in British Columbia.

For BC to benefit from a generational opportunity to play a major role in supplying critical minerals needed throughout the world, it must have efficient and timely permitting processes that protect the environment, bring investor confidence and increase prosperity for all British Columbians.

Mineral exploration is vital to the BC economy. Like other regions, mineral exploration in Northwest BC supports thousands of workers and families throughout the province, and the development of every operating metal mine in BC started with a discovery by a prospector or junior mining company.

The province’s proposed strategy must quickly bring confidence and clarity with access to land for mineral exploration and development. To succeed, it must be an open and transparent process that includes the mineral exploration sector at the table with government, First Nations and other partners.

AME appreciates the transparent approach that the provincial government has taken at this very early stage and looks forward to receiving more detail. On behalf of our 6,000 members, we encourage the government to continue to collaborate with AME and to use existing regulatory tools, such as the Mineral Claims Consultation Framework and Notice of Work permits, to support planning, attract investment, and maintain access to land for mineral exploration and development.
