As the Director of Policy, Gary leads the development, analysis, and advancement of policy positions that support a responsible, competitive, and sustainable mineral exploration industry in B.C. and across Canada.

An economist by background, Gary worked at the highest level of the federal government as a Policy Advisor to Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, and most recently as Senior Advisor to Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development where he worked on Canada’s international mining engagement.

Prior to his role with the federal government, Gary has worked on resource policy across U.S., China, and Europe. He worked as a Consultant with the World Bank’s Macroeconomics Team where he focused on natural resources accounting based in the Beijing Office. He also worked at the OECD as part of the Natural Resources Policy team. Gary started his policy career at the Brookings Institution where he worked on China, and as an Intern with the U.S. Senate in a U.S. Senator’s Office, where he worked on Ukraine and Iran with the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Gary is from South Surrey, B.C. where he is a proud member of the Rotary Club of White Rock. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, a Master of Economics from Peking University and a MPhil from University of Cambridge. Gary is a salsa dancer and enjoys the theatre and arts scene. You can usually find Gary around English Bay where he is working up on his sailing knowledge and preparing for the next sailing adventure.
