Kamloops Mining Day

This was a hands-on interactive educational family fun day learning about the mining industry. Special guests Brett Turcotte, Face Painting by Denise, Uncle Chris the Clown and Yukon Dan. KEG Outreach Coordinator, Julie Dormer, appeared on the Kamloops talk show, Midday, to discuss Kamloops Mining Day.

In addition, The Kamloops Mining Day committee annually asks the city to proclaim mining week during Mining Day, however, this year KEG asked and were granted mining month in Kamloops.

Meet a Machine

KEG had an interactive booth at the event with cookie mining, ask a geologist and the reclamation game. The event was attended by over 2800 people.

Public Outreach – Class Visits

KEG visited various Schools to tell them about the Jr Delegate program, projects and the industry to prepare them for the upcoming conference. KEG visited the following schools;

  • S’Kelep School of Excellence
  • Kay Bingham Elementary School
  • Salmon Arm Senior High School
  • Norkam Senior Secondary School
  • Sahali Secondary School

KEG Field Trips

KEG Volunteer, Ed Frey, facilitated the following field trips over the year;

  • a Kamloops area tour with Aberdeen Elementary School teachers during their PRO-D day.
  • a Kamloops area tour with the Kamloops Chapter Geoscientists & Engineers BC.
  • a Kamloops area tour for Ms. Allen-Innis and Ms. Elliot’s Aberdeen Elementary School grades 4, 5 & 6 classes
  • presented lectures to the grade 8 classes of Chris Spanis, Scott Barker and Elizabeth Babcock on plate tectonics.
